Our hairdressing tutors stay connected to hair salon industry trends by completing work experience in the best hair salons. They also attend courses in New Zealand and overseas to bring you the most amazing innovative training the Bay of Plenty has to offer.

Hair To Train Directors

Ruth O’Keefe and Peter Robieson are the Directors of Hair to Train. After 25-years as owner and operator of The College of Modern Hairdressing in Palmerston North, Ruth then founded Hair to Train, (Tauranga Hair Design Academy Limited), in 1997.

Ruth and her partner Peter Robieson oversee the governance of Hair to Train. An annual highlight on their calendar is the Hair to Train graduation ceremony, where they get to see first-hand the transformational impact their organisation has on so many lives.

Donna Waterson

General Manager

Donna has 33 years hair industry experience including 12 years with L’Oréal working in education, as well as sales and management roles. Donna is responsible for both academies. Donna’s qualifications include:

  • Trade Certificate in Ladies Hairdressing
  • Advanced Trade Certificate in Ladies Hairdressing
  • Certificate in Adult Teaching
  • Certificate in Business Management (Sydney)
  • Graduate Diploma in Management Studies (Waikato)
  • National Certificate Adult Literacy Educational (Vocational) Level 5
  • National Certificate in Maori (Te Waharoa) Level 2

Jo hair to train tutor

Jo Brierley

Education Manager

With over 27 years’ experience in the hair dressing industry and more than 9 years as a hair dresser tutor, Jo has spent her whole working life in the industry she loves. She believes students learn best when the environment is fun and creative. Jo is proud to be part of an organisation that consistently stands out in its field, and also gives learners the skills they need to excel in hairdressing. Jo is a registered tutor assessor with qualifications including:

  • Trade Certificate in Ladies Hairdressing
  • National Certificate and Diploma in Adult Teaching Level 5 and Level 6
  • National Certificate Adult Literacy Educational (Vocational) Level 5
  • National Certificate in Maori (Te Waharoa) Level 2
  • Working towards “Goldwell Master Colourist”

Liz brings a wealth of office experience to the role she is passionate about with more than 29 years office experience. She will most likely be your first point of contact at Hair to Train and is also the friendly face all students can go to.

Liz also holds:

  • Health & Safety Certificate
  • Completed Unit Standard 8085 Quality Management Level 3
  • First Aid Certificate
